Research on Child Poverty and Teaching Children Growing Up in Poverty

In November, New York State Unified Teachers Labor Relations Specialist Loren Fountaine shared with CEA members extensive research on child poverty and techniques to use in teaching students who grow up in poverty.

The first portion of the presentation, slides 1 – 69, contains facts and research about poverty and wealth distribution. Starting on slide 70, the presentation switches to a focus on teaching students living in poverty, and Ruby Payne’s work on the culture of poverty and its relationship to education.
